Another week of carrying out experiments! We spent a few days running our samples in the XRD machine. Each samples takes 1 and a half hours to complete so it is quite a time consuming process, especially when you have 14 samples to run.

We decided to make the most of the time waiting for the machine to run by carrying out surface roughness testing on the carburised samples that we had received. This was an interesting experience since the hardware was from1994, only one year younger than us! And therefore the only way to save the work was on to floppy disks! So you can imagine that took us a bit of time to get used to. We definitely have learned to appreciate the USB stick more after this week.
