So our first proper week working on the project. We spent the week getting a demostration on the uses of the scanning electron microscope (SEM). We also received our training on what would be the most tedious part of the project, the grinding and polishing...

We learned how to prepare the samples manually and thankfully also automatically. We also taught how to create and break moulded samples. By the end of the week we managed to complete the preperation process for all of our untreated sampels and also started the process of writing up the preparation and the history of carburisation section of the report. Thought it was better to get a head start on this so we didn't have the entire report to write up towards the end of the semester!
